Discover the Dudson Legacy – a Heritage Open Day

Join our Dudson experts on a new heritage trail to explore the museum site beyond the bottle oven.

Hear about the Dudson family and learn about the skills of the potters and their creative legacy, including new talks and displays never seen before.

Our new heritage trail around the Dudson Museum site includes several new displays that take you into rooms on the upper floors of the courtyard that you may have never seen before, as well as exploring inside the beautiful Grade II listed bottle oven. It is quite unique to have a ceramics collection housed inside an original bottle oven, something that has to be experienced to fully appreciate the ambience of the venue.

You will unwrap the creative legacy of the Dudson family, who ran Dudson pottery for eight generations, with the help of our expert tour guides. During the tour, you will be able to reimagine the pottery factory, with the processes that the skilled potters and factory workers used during the 19th century.

Step inside and appreciate the beauty of the iconic building and its contents; the glorious Dudson ceramics collection, spanning 200 years.

Guided tours of the beautiful Dudson Museum will take place at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. You will be able to select your tour time when booking your free ticket.

Following the tour, you are invited to relax in the Dudson Café, which will be open all day for people to enjoy refreshments, and chat with our Volunteering Support team, who will be on hand to discuss volunteer opportunities at the museum. Everyone who shows an interest in volunteering will take away a free goody bag.

We prefer that you pre-book your space on a tour but if we have space on a tour you are welcome to join. The tours will be limited to 15 people per tour to ensure that everyone can access the rooms comfortably, especially inside the bottle oven.
